Above: Egyptian Merimde clay head - 4th millennium BC
Sculpting the human face in clay is one of the oldest and most expressive forms of art. From the Merimde clay head of ancient Egypt (one of the earliest known representations of a human face, dating back to the 4th millennium BC) to the dynamic clay portraits of today, artists have long used this medium to explore identity, emotion, and form.
Sculpting is the art of making objects from stone, wood, clay. In this assignment we'll be making clay sculptures.

Knowledgable: I am learning new things and I can follow the lessons.
Open-minded: I am open to the world around me and interested in what is happening right now. I like to explore other cultures and learn about different people. I find respect important.
During the first lesson you are going to try and get the hang of sculpting. Watch the video's and try to follow the steps in the video and see what works for you and what doesn't.
See how she build us the eye shape and uses scratches + a bit of water to make sure the elements stick to each other.
For this lesson you will practice sculpting an ear and practice sculpting the shape of a skull. If you have time on your hand, then you will practice one of the elements from last week.
Do you remember these proportions?
