During these next few weeks you are going to learn how to draw faces with the right proportions and realistic elements.
What are we going to learn?
how to draw a correctly proportioned face
draw facial elements realistically
recreate the other half of a photo
transfer a 2d face into a 3d face
Look at the pictures on the board and listen te the teachers instructions.
Practice drawing realistic eyes, noses and mouths. Look up photo's online and use those as a reference. You can also look up youtube tutorials. Please use photo's not drawings!
Pay attention to:
Realistic shapes
Shadows (use a b pencil)
Contrasts (light vs. dark areas)
Proportions (the facial features in the right place)
Your going to look for a portrait picture of yourself or a celebrity.
The person has to look at you from the front.
Print the picture in black and white. Fold the picture in half and cut the picture
in half so you have a left and a right side of the face. Stick one of the halves on an A4 paper. Don’t throw away the other half because you need to look at this half in order to know what to draw!!! It is now up to you to try and draw the other half!
I know it’s difficult! But try to keep going!
Tips:
Keep looking at the (not glued on) half to see what you have to draw
Use your blending stump to create different light and dark shadows.
Try and make it look as realistic as possible.
Criteria:
You have used pencils only
You are able to create a realistic looking image with the proportions (Facial features) in the correct place.
You have used different light and dark shadows and skin tones that create depth in the face.
Eye for detail
We will be making a clay bust of yourself. Try to make the shapes as realistic as posible.
For the next part of the assignment you are going to choose a photo of a person whose body is in motion (the body is moving).
Try and draw the body with the right proportions. So that means that the arms and legs and torso (upperbody) have the correct shape and length.
But also see if you can show us (if visable in the photo) how the limbs (arm and leg) are connected. Is there a muscles we can see connecting it? Like for example a shoulder?
On the right you can see a red line drawn in the figure. The drawer started with this line to help him see where the limbs and other body elements should roughly go. Try making helping lines for yourself.
