Last assignment we learnt how to create depth by using colour and details (atmospheric perspective). During this project you will learn how to create depth by using one point perspective.
One-point perspective is a drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away, converging (see picture on the right) towards a single “vanishing point” on the horizon line.
Inquisitive: I am curious and I like to learn new things. I actively take part in lessons and activities
Risk-taking: I am willen to try new and different things. I am not afraid to make mistakes and I know I can learn from them.
Reflective: I am learning to understand what my strengths and points of development are. I am trying to grow and improve.
Knowledgable: I am learning new things and I can follow the lessons.
There are 3 different ways to draw depth. They all depend on where you stand and where the horizon is. Can you place the name with the correct photo?
-one point perspective - two points perspective - three points perspective -
1) 2 points perspective
2) 3 points perspective
3) 1 point perspective
1st year: one point perspective
2nd year: two point perspective
These works on the right and left are made by Escher. He is famous for creating artworks that create illusions (a false idea or belief.). In his illustions he plays around with perspective. Have a look for yourself! What's happening to the buildings?
Taka a look at this picture first. This is "The Bedroom At Arles", 1888 by Vincent van Gogh.
Take your protector triangle and have a look whether all the lines are going to one point?
What effect does this give?
In the next two lessons, you are going to practice using one point perspective.
Imagine you are lying on the ground somewhere and looking up into the sky! What would you see?
The dot in the middle of your circle is called the vanishing point. All the vertical lines go to this point.

Have you finished the first assignment and do you feel like you understand one point perspective? Try drawing your bedroom with one point perspective.
Think about what happens with shadows and how to make 3D furniture.
